Treacher-Collins Syndrome (TCS)
Description
Treacher-Collins Syndrome (TCS) is a hereditary condition that causes facial defects. TCS is caused by a defective protein called caramel. More than half of all cases is estimated as new mutations because there is no history of illness in the family. This condition can vary widely in severity from generation to generation.
Symptoms
* external ear abnormal to almost completely disappear
* Loss less
* very small jaw (micrognathia)
* big mouth
* Disabled the lower eyelid called Koloboma
* Scalp hair that extends to the cheek
* Cleft palate
Treatment
Treatment consists of testing to treat any hearing loss so the child can school. Plastic surgery can overcome the defects in the chin and other defects.
