LOS ANGELES -- Lindsay Lohan's electronic ankle bracelet went off this week but the incident is believed to have been a false alarm.
Lohan, who is under house arrest for violating probation for a 2007 DUI charge, began serving out her sentence last week.
But her monitoring device went off Monday, alerting probation officers that she could have left her home -- a violation of the terms of her house arrest, TMZ reported Thursday.
The device could have "missed a signal" or malfunctioned, a source told TMZ.
"It looks like it's been resolved," the source added, though the matter has not formally been closed by the probation department overseeing her arrangement.
The 24-year-old actress has said she wants to use her time at home "to relax, focus on her recovery and figure out her new game plan for her life and career," the celebrity website reported.
Before she began serving her sentence, Lohan reportedly purchased several canvases so she could paint to relieve stress. She also has multiple scripts to look through as she prepares to get her acting career back on track.
In May, the "Mean Girls" star pleaded no contest to theft for taking a $2,500 necklace from a pricey Los Angeles boutique. She was originally charged with felony grand theft but Judge Stephanie Sautner reduced the charge to a misdemeanor in April.
Lohan had been sentenced to 120 days in county jail for the probation violation but she applied to be placed under house arrest instead.
Lohan will spend 360 hours helping at a homeless shelter for women and 120 hours doing janitorial work at the Los Angeles County morgue.
As part of her plea deal, Lohan was also ordered to complete 480 hours of community service, undergo psychological counseling and complete the "Shoplifters Alternative" course.
