Iceland's most active volcano, Grimsvton, erupted on Saturday and pulled out along 15 km of white smoke in the air. But experts predict the eruption did not cause any disruption to air traffic.
"This could be a big eruption, but can not be like last year," said geologist Iceland Met Office, Hjorleifur Sveinbjornsson refers to the April 2010 eruption under the glacier Eyjafjallajokull. Similarly, as reported by Reuters on Sunday (22/05/2011)
The eruption of the volcano last year caused air traffic chaos for days, after spewing ash into the air and caused concern due to possible damage accident aircraft engines.
"We expect the eruption Grimsvotn not affect air traffic to and from any country," said Iceland's communications director, Gudjon Arngrimsson.
However, local media website pictures showed thick clouds of white smoke like a mushroom cloud around the mountain.
"Grimsvotn is a volcano that is very strong, so we are monitoring closely, even if some of the last eruption was not dangerous," said geophysical University of Iceland, Pall Einarsson, as quoted in Morgunbladid newspaper sites.
Morgunbladid quotes from farmers in the area south of the glacier that says ash that has begun to fall in the settlement.
Sveinbjornsson said the team of scientists has flown out to the area to gather more information. He said, no one is threatened by the volcano, because of the immediate area as far as 100 km is the agricultural area is uninhabited.
